THE STORY

Just one year after the tragic death of South Africa's iconic leader Nelson Mandela, the Office of the Consul General was planning the annual memorial celebration in Chicago. The city's long-lasting connection with the country of South Africa meant there were already deep relationships built within specific communities. Through involvement with this initiative, a spark was ignited and from there continued development of projects and relationships between the US and South Africa.
